Byrne described it as gathering data from decisions made, gathering data on the context in which decisions were made, and applying analytics to the context in order to build a feedback loop and generate more decisions that are driven by commercial value.

According to Byrne, 'This is adaptable AI, and it has a totally different attitude from standard AI.'

Metaverse will integrate several technologies

Byrne explained that the metaverse is made up of a variety of technologies and is connected to business issues like a lack of confidence in data or how to enhance customer service for individuals who are skeptics of the concept. Avatars and chatbots could be used as a means of enhancing customer service. Using gamification for training and augmented reality for buying are two other methods. According to a study by Gartner, 51% of Gen Z expects augmented reality to exist in some form over the next two years.

Sustainability will be aided by technology

Sustainability and the role IT can play are the final two trends identified by Gartner. Byrne cautions that it's not just about the environment and climate change, but also about the people running the show, the social components of an organisation, enhancing work culture, improving diversity, equity, and inclusion for employees, and improving training.

But when it comes to environmental sustainability, technology has a very significant role to play. This is especially true when it comes to solutions for energy reduction in IT services, the use of analytics, and the traceability of renewable energy. Businesses can take these into account, determine what applies to their industry, and then create a roadmap.
